I have been practicing photography for over 20 years, and recently combined oil paint with my photographs in order to extend
the meaning of a single-frame or multiple-frame photographic image. For many years I have worked on large composites, created
from as many as 80 individual photographs. The composites are frequently based on traditional quilt designs. This influence
is carried over to the mixed media paintings. In addition, many of these paintings are a response to well or lesser-known
artists' paintings from the mid-18th century to the present. Horses play an important role in this work due to their physical
presence, the beauty of their form, and the intensity of the horse-human bond.
